An American visa is an endorsement by the United States on a passport or other travel document held by a national or foreign citizen to indicate that the holder is allowed to enter the US territory. It can also be described as a certificate of endorsement issued to them. U.S. visas can be divided into two categories: immigrant visas and nonimmigrant visas; each major category can be divided into many subcategories.    Holding a U.S. visa does not necessarily lead to successful entry into the United States. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will make the final decision on the granting of entry rights at the port of entry.
